La Casa NY News

We are so happy to invite New Yorkers to stop in and see our  renovation-- making our space more beautiful than ever.

Also, we have four new therapies to partake of. We are seeing amazing--sometimes even miraculous-- results from them.

I have been watching the development if the HOCATT for 5 years, and finally decided that I couldn't live without it. Its cost made it a difficult decision. But, it's there, and everyone loves it. LOVES it. not LIKES it. LOVES it.  I have also been using the Nanovated Hydrotherapy Bath in my personal bathroom for two years. Because of its location in my apartment, I only invited clients to use it whom I had known for a while. Now that I have created its own room for it at La Casa--a beautiful new bathroom--all can come and use this very advanced Oxygen/Hydrogen therapy. The MRT device was introduced to me at a Dietrich Klinghardt seminar I took recently. And finally, in this day and age, no holistic center is complete without IV therapies.

HOCATT

HOCATT stands for “Hyperthermic Ozone and Carbonic Acid Transdermal Therapy.” The HOCATT is the most advanced, state-of-the-art, multi-technology, wellness healing system on the planet.

We are pleased to say that the Platinum HOCATT we have is the only one in NYC. It combines 10 different therapies in one system, delivering them all simultaneously. Each of the therapies (with the exception of one) has been offered at La Casa for the 26 years we have been open. But they delivered as separate systems, performed individually, and doing all of them would typically take several hours. With the HOCATT, all these therapies are delivered in a half hour.

The device is a personal steam sauna in which the body receives an infusion of ozone, carbon dioxide, carbonic acid, steam, Photon light, infrared light, frequencies (130 bundles of over 1000 healing frequencies) and oxygen. It is the only ozone system that utilizes the benefits of carbonic acid, serving to open up the circulation to the skin so that when the ozone gas is infused, it is absorbed not only by the skin, but into general circulation, as well. Additionally, the Photon and infrared lights increase blood flow. These light waves break inflammatory cycles by dilating small blood and lymphatic vessels. This increase in circulation results in both accelerated healing and pain relief. Pure oxygen is inhaled throughout the session, boosting the immune system, enhancing energy, and reducing stress.

The HOCATT facilitates overall health rejuvenation.

Benefits of HOCATT:
• Increases blood circulation
• Increases blood oxygen level and metabolism (anti-aging)
• Increases core body temperature
• Combats and disposes of pathogens and toxins (detox)
• Relaxes muscle tension
• Increases energy levels
• Increases Serotonin levels (relaxing)
• Burns up to 600 calories per session
• Activates skin tissue

Here is a list of just a few of the over 1000 frequency specific microcurrents that are available:

• Bronchitis

• Candida

• Depression

• Diabetes Type I

• Eczema

• Epstein-Barr

• HIV

• Hypertension

• Parasite: Tapeworms

• Parasite: Flukes

• Vertigo

• UTI

• Parkinson’s Disease

NANOVATED HYDROTHERAPY

I was introduced to this system by my friend, the late Burton Goldberg. It is a truly revolutionary healing system. There is only one other Nanovated bath in the world, and I was lucky enough to sample it before I made the decision to buy my own. The other Nanovated bath is housed in the medical clinic of Leigh Erin Coneally, MD. She is a holistic oncologist, and well-known for her successful treatment of many life-threatening afflictions. I caught up with Leigh Erin at a cancer conference we were both speaking at in California, and asked if she was happy with the system. She explained that she has conducted live blood cell analyses and dark field microscopy assessments on many of the people who have used the system. She said that after the bath, the blood always looks cleaner, more coherent, and more organized.

I decided to try the system for myself. I stepped into a regular bathtub at her clinic, and happily luxuriated in warm water for a half hour, all the while bubbles and more bubbles were being spewed out of jets, surrounding me, enveloping me in their soft cloudlike composition. The experience was quite pleasant, very much like a Jacuzzi. But nothing earth-shattering. The earth-shattering part came when I stepped out of the tub, looked down at my legs, and realized that my former crocodile skin (been that way for at least a year) was smooth as silk. Even though I was submerged, there was none of that pruneiness to any part of my body. There’s a good reason for that, and the reason is related to why the bath has such remarkable healing benefits.

All those bubbles are pure oxygen and hydrogen, and had the effect of oxygenating my body to the same extent as a Hyperbaric Chamber. I have taken hyperbaric chamber treatments quite a few times. I tolerate them. They are not pleasant. They are noisy, and when the pressure changes, my ears tell me it is so, like on a plane. Also, there are certain conditions under which they are dangerous. I took my daughter once to a clinic for a hyperbaric treatment (before I owned my own), thinking it would be an all-round good thing for her to do. Who can argue with getting more oxygen into the body?  She was all set to get into the chamber, and I mentioned parenthetically that she had been suffering from a sinus infection. The practitioner informed me that she could burst an eardrum from the treatment. Grateful for the important information, we left. Unlike the hyperbaric chamber that can cause discomfort or even injury, in the Nanovated Bath you are submerged comfortably in warm, highly filtered, structured water that has been super-charged with stabilized nano-sized molecules of oxygen and hydrogen.

Each bath is replete with TRILLIONS of bioavailable oxygen and hydrogen molecules that are nanobubbles and nanoplasmoids. Nanobubbles are similar to normal gas bubbles except they are far, far smaller and are attracted to and driven against your skin. Since they are so small, each and every cell of your skin can readily use all the oxygen and hydrogen it wants. If you were to line up 12,000 of our nanobubbles end-to-end, you would have the length of the head of a pin. Nanoplasmoids are similar in size and have the same attraction qualities as nanobubbles but also have a unique energetic (electrical) “charge.” These nanoplasmoids, coupled with the nanobubbles, give the water its unique abilities to heal the skin, radically detox the whole body, and let the bather reap all the benefits of oxygen and hudrogen therapy . . . all while comfortably soaking in a warm bath. Your body is able to absorb these health-giving/life-sustaining molecules, and put them to immediate good use.

There is something special that happens when nanobubbles get to be 150nm or smaller. The electron charge around the bubble itself changes the polarity of the water from net positive to net negative which means the water and, more to the point, all the tiny bioavailable gas bubbles themselves, are pushed up to and against whatever positively charged things come into contact with the nanobubbled water. Your intestinal lining, for example, is positively charged; so is your skin.

Also, since the net charge is changed, the nanobubbles themselves are not easily able to touch each other. Thus, they remain very small and do not coalesce into a larger bubble. These tiny bubbles do not have enough mass to float and thus remain suspended in the liquid for extremely long periods of time (especially if bottled and sealed). And, since the gas bubbles are almost the size of the molecule of water itself, it almost begs the question if we are actually talking about gas anymore . . . as all gasses are technically fluids.

The technology used in the Nanovated Hydrotherapy system comes from combining and coordinating advances made in the fields of aerospace, nanotechnology, and electrical engineering in order to bring more oxygen and hydrogen into the body. Lack of oxygen in the body is the root cause of thousands of maladies, including pain and inflammation. Diseases thrive in oxygen-poor environments. We need oxygen to provide nutrients and energy to all of the cells in their bodies. 99% of diseases cannot live in an oxygen rich environment. The Nanovated Bath is an easy, safe and infinitely pleasant way of infusing the body with additional life-preservative oxygen and hydrogen.

MUSCULAR RELAXATION THERAPY (MRT)

Dietrich Klinghardt, MD posits that low body temperature is the second leading cause of chronic disease. (Toxicity has the privilege of being in the number 1 position.)

MRT is a fast, easy, non-invasive, effective microcirculation therapy that bathes muscles with warm, oxygenated blood, and raises the temperature of the whole body. One hand is enclosed in a special mitt inside a heated vacuum chamber. Although the therapy involves only one hand, the effect is systemic. The therapy takes advantage of a unique arrangement of blood vessels called the arteriovenous anastomosis—AVA—in the palm of the hand. The job of the AVA is to act as the body’s radiator to dump excess heat. The MRT treatment induces the AVA to be used as a portal, infusing heat into the entire circulatory system. It is a non-Invasive, drug-free pain relief therapy.

THE WONDERS OF WWOOF

Ever heard of WWOOF? It’s an international organization that pairs volunteers with farms. The volunteers donate their time and skill to help with various tasks, and the farm provides food and board. La Casa PR has been participating in this program for 3 years, and had the most amazing volunteers come through. We've all made life-long friends in the process.

Here's what one WWOOFer had to say about their recent stay with us:

"Jyl is such an AMAZING host!! She gave me a warm welcome to Puerto Rico. Took me to beautiful beaches, Old San Juan and even a dance class! The workload was manageable and never straining. Jyl is extremely considerate and always made sure I was well-rested before doing tasks around the farm. The land itself took my breath away, especially the rooftop view! If you're looking for a farm where you can work, have fun and relax this is the place for you!"

With a mind to all the women who, like myself, are always 'ON' and pulled in so many directions, women who give their all to others (but often forget to give to themselves) — and women who can't WAIT to escape the cold and dreary November in the NorthEast! — my friend Andreea has curated the Beautifully Brazen Retreat in Costa Rica's Santa Teresa for Women only.

It's taking place on November 3rd—9th. There are only seven spots left, so if you are interested, don't sit on this beautiful invitation too long!

Last Musings, I talked about breadfruit saving the world from starvation. This Musings I want to talk about papaya since we have whole orchards of papaya trees growing on my farm in Puerto Rico. We are never hungry for papayas.

It took me a while to develop my love for papayas, mostly because of the smell. I hate to say it, but at first sniff, it smells a little like vomit. Sorry. But that’s what always came to mind to my snoozle whenever papaya was put in front of me. I’ve gotten over that. And now, it is my second favorite fruit (mango beats it out). I add liberal amounts of lemon or lime, sprinkle pumpkin seeds on top (which we also have in abundance on the farm), and voila: the best breakfast anyone can hope for.

Papayas are known locally as papaws or pawpaws. Health benefits of papaya include reduced risks of heart disease, diabetes, asthma, macular degeneration and cancer. They aid in digestion, improve hair health, improve blood glucose control, builds and maintains collagen, lowers blood pressure, improves bone health, reduces inflammation, and improves skin and wound healing.

Papayas are an excellent source of vitamin C, and one single medium fruit provides 224 percent of recommended daily intake. Papayas are also a good source of the following nutrients:

·      folate

·      vitamin A

·      magnesium

·      copper

·      pantothenic acid

·      fiber

·      B vitamins

·      alpha and beta-carotene

·      lutein and zeaxanthin

·      vitamin E

·      calcium

·      potassium

·      vitamin K

·      lycopene

LIFESTYLE TRUMPS GENES

"Life-style trumps genes" is one of the most important lessons on health that I want to impart. My mother and sister were both dead of cancer long before they reached the age that I am currently (73). Pictures above are of me on my 72nd birthday. I am healthy, have no diseases, live an active lifestyle (swim, run, do yoga), and am a 53-year vegetarian. Yet, according to genetic predictions, I should probably be dead. Statistical estimates are that I have a 16 times higher chance of getting cancer than someone without my genetic history. Rather than dying, I thrive in my lifestyle, my age, and my infinite curiosity. (Watch the attached video of me talking about Brainercize, and about the etymology of the word cure ("cura") — from which we get the word curiosity. CURIOSITY is the CURE.

My mother was my first inspiration/lesson about the reversibility of cancer.

I created La Casa Spa and Wellness Center long before holistic medicine was widely known. My mother and I spent the 1970s seeking alternative cancer therapies because she had been diagnosed with breast cancer mestaticized to terminal bone cancer. Following sound principles of holistic health, my mother was able to reverse her cancer condition entirely, moving from her wheelchair to joyfully playing tennis again.

After my father died, my mother's cancer came roaring back with a vengeance. I understand the resurgance of my mother's illness to be entirely related to the loss of her one-and-only-beloved.

These experiences — of my mother getting sick, my mother fully reversing terminal cancer, and my mother's cancer coming back after the biggest emotional loss of her life — inspired me to specialize in my psychoanalytic practice to work with cancer patients, and to fulfill the need for a holistic healing center. La Casa started as a destination holistic center in the rain forest jungle  of Puerto Rico, and then in the urban jungle of NYC. I invite my readers, and all others, to partake of the restorative and profoundly cleansing therapies that have brought La Casa world-wide recognition. A personal note: there is not a single therapy offered at both La Casas that I have not incorportated into my own lifestyle.

Dr. T Returns To La Casa This September!

On Thursday, September 12th (at 7:30pm) our friend Dr. Adiel Tel-Oren is going to give a talk at La Casa, titled: "The Protein Epidemic: Good, Bad and Ugly!" Learn the surprising facts that nature and chemical sciences teach us about the many unknown faces of protein. For more details and to RSVP, click HERE.

The following day, between 2pm and 7pm, he will holding an Holistic Skin Clinic with FREE skin evaluation. If you never been to a skin clinic before, please click HERE and read carefully the information before you make an appointment. Evaluation is free, but if you want to remove a mole or growth, there is a cost. Book your appointment HERE.

This is an unpublished article by Michael Platt, MD.  I am pleased to be able to send this out to our subscribers. I have had several conversations with Dr. Platt over the last few weeks. His research is fascinating and compelling.

When I first began my exploration into holistic health, I was Ruth Sackman’s assistant. She started the first organization—the Foundation for Advancement of Cancer Therapies—that disseminated information about biological/non-toxic treatments for cancer. It was through her guidance that my mother cured herself of her terminal bone cancer.

During that time, I was a regular speaker at FACT’s annual conference. I often shared the podium with John Lee. Dr. Lee did the seminal research on the use of natural progesterone cream, and changed (and doubtless saved) many women’s lives by introducing the concept of the importance of women getting more progesterone than we had been getting.

Dr. Platt gives us the next generation of thought on natural progesterone. He introduces much higher dosage; he suggests usage for both men and women as well as for children; he ties progesterone with insulin/sugar output and adrenaline. He puts these three biological phenomena together in a way that has never been done before. Read on for this fascinating material (available only on Musings).

Adrenaline Dominance

There is a healthcare crisis in America that is completely under the radar. Almost every family is affected by it in some way or another. It is associated with adrenaline, a hormone that most people are aware of. It is known as the "fight-or-flight" hormone, which is released in large quantities whenever we are in danger.

It is an extremely powerful hormone, and has significant physiologic effects on our body. These episodes are usually short-lived, and as soon as the danger passes the adrenaline levels go back down.

Common Symptoms

However, there is another reason the body releases adrenaline, and it can occur throughout the day and night for sustained periods. Needless to say, this can have a significant effect on our health, and certainly, on the quality of our life. For example, excess adrenaline can prevent us from falling asleep or staying asleep. In certain people it makes the mind race, causes restless leg syndrome, results in bruxism (teeth grinding), tightens the jaw (TMJ), and causes nighttime urination, especially around 2:30 am when levels of adrenaline are the highest.

During the day it is the primary cause of anxiety, it creates anger (including road rage); cuts off circulation to certain areas of the body not needed for survival (resulting in cold hands and/or feet, as well as IBS); makes muscles tense leading to the buildup of lactic acid, causing the pain of fibromyalgia; and it creates an “over-active” bladder in women, and bed-wetting in children.

In addition, it is the underlying cause of ADHD in children and adults, it creates muscle tension in the neck resulting in tinnitus and headaches, it is the cause of conditions felt to be incurable such as chronic interstitial cystitis and PMDD
(premenstrual dysphoric disorder)—a condition found in about 5-8% of menstruating women. These are the women who no one can live with for about 10 days of the month due to severe anger issues and mood swings.

Possible Role in Addiction

There are many people in this country addicted to drugs and alcohol. They often wind up going through detox or some form of rehab therapy to get off whatever chemical they are addicted to. In this situation it is important to understand that people often get into drugs and alcohol simply to relax when they are dealing with high levels of adrenaline.

During the many years that I have treated people with excess adrenaline, I have observed that people who are creative have the most adrenaline. One needs only to look at people in the music industry to appreciate the high incidence of drugs and alcohol, unfortunately often leading to deaths from over-dosing. This can also be said to affect people in Hollywood, who might have a tendency to overindulge at times.

There are certain characteristics that creative people exhibit. For example, they are very intuitive about other people—in other words, they can read other people. They often have premonitions or déjà vu experiences. They might know who is on the phone before they answer it. If they go too long without eating they get shaky or irritable. They will find that animals and small children might be attracted to them, and they may fall asleep in a car when other people are driving.

Additional Problems

There are two related conditions that are in the category of “we do not know what causes it, and we certainly do not know how to treat it”. The first is called cyclical vomiting syndrome (CVS), and the other is hyperemesis gravidarum. CVS is most often seen in children who start vomiting and cannot stop and have to be hospitalized. The other condition I mentioned is found in women who experience nausea and/or vomiting throughout their entire pregnancy. Again, both related to excess adrenaline.

There are some babies that experience colic, which I suspect is the earliest manifestation of adrenaline dominance. Normally, this is a condition that can

cause new parents to be up all night. The good news is that it can be treated and eliminated in less than five minutes.

The next manifestation of excess adrenaline is called “the terrible two’s”. Other excess adrenaline issues in children I have mentioned previously—bed wetting which can be eliminated in 24 hours, and, of course, ADHD, which also is easily addressed. In my book called Adrenaline Dominance, I discuss the reason why the body releases adrenaline, the conditions associated with it, and, of course, how to treat it. With regard to the conditions, I divide them into the good, the bad, and the ugly—taking the liberty of borrowing

the idea from the Clint Eastwood movie of the same title.

The only condition that I placed in the “good” category is ADHD. This sort of goes against the thinking of most schools and many doctors, but when you consider that the most intelligent, creative, successful people in the world have ADHD, it is hard to think of it in negative terms. It is often referred to as a ‘learning disorder’, but in reality it is
actually an ‘interest’ disorder. Children with ADHD will definitely focus if they are interested, but if it is a subject that they have no interest in they will easily get
distracted.

I mentioned earlier that as part of the “fight-or-flight” response, adrenaline cuts off circulation to certain areas of the body not needed for survival. Again, it is the cause of cold hands and/or feet. Which brings us to another condition that excess adrenaline can claim credit for which is peripheral neuropathy. It is often attributable to diabetes, and when people have it but are not diabetic it is called
‘idiopathic’—which means of no known cause. However, I suspect that it might be attributable to adrenaline cutting off blood supply to the nerves in the feet.

Adrenal Fatigue — A Misdiagnosis?

Another area that is affected by this cut off of circulation is the salivary glands, also not needed for survival. As a result, hormones have a difficult time getting into the saliva. There are certain doctors, especially naturopaths, who rely heavily
on saliva tests to treat their patients. This has resulted in the creation of a disease that actually does not exist called ‘adrenal fatigue’. It is diagnosed based solely on the presence of low cortisol levels in the saliva. Interestingly, however, excess adrenaline is the number one cause of stress, and the body responds to stress by
producing cortisol—the anti-stress hormone.

Since adrenaline peaks during the night, especially around 2:30 am, a morning cortisol blood test done before 9 am
is the best test to determine elevated adrenaline levels. All the books written about ‘adrenal fatigue’ are actually talking about ‘adrenaline dominance’.
Unfortunately, because of the false readings of low salivary cortisol, many patients are started on Cortef (cortisone) when they already have high blood cortisol levels. This contributes to weight gain, osteoporosis, etc.

Weight Gain

So far I have touched on conditions related to excess adrenaline that affect millions of lives. However, I have left out a condition that can have a significant impact on a person’s life, and also affects millions of people. What I am referring  to is weight. Surprisingly, excess adrenaline might be the number one reason why there are so many people fighting with weight gain. Other than preparing the
body for danger, the primary role of adrenaline is to provide sugar for the brain.

The brain utilizes more sugar per weight than any other area of the body. When the brain runs out of fuel, people experience a profound sense of sleepiness which is called hypoglycemia. Classically, this occurs between 3-4 pm when insulin levels are peaking, or after eating, or when people are in a car either as a driver or as a passenger. A low level of sugar in the brain automatically sends an alert to the adrenal glands via the sympathetic nervous system to release adrenaline.

Adrenaline then raises sugar levels via a process called gluconeogenesis, whereby it converts protein into glucose. The brain can use up fuel in as little as three hours. Understandably, adrenaline levels peak around 2:30-3:00am, contributing to insomnia and an urge to urinate around that time.

Adrenaline can create stress. This stimulates the release of another hormone called cortisol which is an
anti-stress hormone. As soon as it is released, it raises glucose levels via a process called glycogenolysis. As a result, the body is putting out two hormones that raise
sugar—while people are sleeping (or trying to).

When it comes to sugar, it does not matter whether you are eating it or if the body is making it, if you don’t burn it up, the sugar is stored as fat in your fat cells.
This may be the number one reason why people are fighting weight.

Treatment

It is important to have the understanding that the primary reason the body is releasing excess adrenaline is simply to raise glucose levels for the brain. However, by giving the brain the fuel it needs, there is a reduced need to use adrenaline to provide fuel. Accordingly, there are two fuels the brain uses: glucose and ketones. The best source of glucose is derived from vegetables. Ketones are derived from coconut or MCT oil.

Each meal—breakfast, lunch, dinner, and bedtime snack—should provide one or the other, ideally both. The only other thing needed to control adrenaline is a 5% (50 mg per pump) progesterone cream that is applied 1-3 minutes before eating. Not only does progesterone block adrenaline from getting to adrenaline receptor sites, it also blocks insulin. Controlling insulin is another way of controlling adrenaline, since it will prevent episodes of hypoglycemia.

Based on our many online reviews, all have had fantastic times!

"Everything was beautiful and perfect!"

                                 -Lindsey

“We really enjoyed the entire atmosphere! All the sounds of the rainforest surrounding us. The cottage was a perfect way to experience it all and had the basics needed. The view was beyond amazing. The sunrise beams right into your bedroom window, welcoming you to the wonderful day ahead! It is the rainforest so there are some lizards and spiders but nothing that bothered us. After a couple of days they weren't around there much, at least not that we noticed. The hostess was very flexible to our late check in from our flight and often asked how things were as we passed through, but we had a lot of privacy as well. Definitely would recommend, very central to a lot of things and the best way to truly experience the rainforest!”

        -Andria

“Awesome location if you’re planning to venture into the jungle. We only stayed one night but I would have gladly stayed a few more. We came with our 9-month-old son and it was a perfect getaway.”

                                    -Jessica

“We had a very charming stay with Jyl. It is really in the forest area so it is advised you arrive with a car. We received some very tasty breakfasts Jyl prepared to us. Would recommend to anyone!”

Would You LIke This Tree In Your Backyard?

Maybe if it were a tree, you would be happy with it. You could do some tree-communing, and reap loads of benefits, as I talked about in a past Musings.

But, it's not a tree.

It's a high radiation-emitting antenna that gave my friend serious radiation poisoning.

LIFESTYLE TRUMPS GENES

"Life-style trumps genes" is one of the most important lessons on health that I want to impart. My mother and sister were both dead of cancer long before they reached the age that I am currently (72). Pictures above are of me on my 72nd birthday, two months ago. I am healthy, have no diseases, live an active lifestyle (swim, run, do yoga), and am a 50-year vegetarian. Yet, according to genetic predictions, I should probably be dead. Statistical estimates are that I have a 16 times higher chance of getting cancer than someone without my genetic history. Rather than dying, I thrive in my lifestyle, my age, and my infinite curiosity.

These experiences -- of my mother getting sick, my mother fully reversing terminal cancer, and my mother's cancer coming back after the biggest emotional loss of her life -- inspired me to specialize in my psychoanalytic practice to work with cancer patients, and to fulfill the need for a holistic healing center.

The Importance To The Whole Planet's Eco-System Of Rebuilding Puerto Rico

Musings from 20th Street

The Importance to the Whole Planet’s Eco-System of Rebuilding Puerto Rico

A little more than 30 years ago, I opened the first La Casa — La Casa de Vida Natural — located in the foothills of El Yunque — the Puerto Rican rainforest (the only tropical rainforest in the national forest system).

I opened La Casa because I had fallen in love with the island, and wanted to have a place where I could share my knowledge and enthusiasm about living close to nature, eating a plant-based diet, the value of detoxification, swimming in the nourishing ocean waters, and more. Spending time there has been, and remains, vitally important to my own health, as well as to the many guests that we have served.

In 1993, I opened a sister La Casa center in New York. It carries the distinction of being the oldest wellness center in NYC. Because of my decision to send my daughter to a NYC school, I concentrated my attention on the NY center, and eventually closed La Casa de Vida Natural.

Almost three years ago, I decided to re-open my center in Puerto Rico. I re-named it La Casa Spa and Wellness Puerto Rico. We spent a year and a half renovating the existing buildings. I had scheduled my first workshop there, Sept 20, 2017. However, on that particular day, Jet Blue could not fly. Hurricane Maria was the only flight in the air happening that day.

In spite of not having electricity for six months, and ordinary life being a challenge in terms of food and water, we soldiered on. We have spent the last almost two years essentially renovating the renovation. We have completed a yoga platform; a yurt; tubs for salt baths and cold thermogenesis; a colonic room; infrared therapy; veggie gardens. We also offer horseback riding; waterfall back-massages; ocean swimming; ocean kyacking; and more. We are nearing completion of construction of three new dome homes.

While the construction has been in progress, we have offered our accomodations to Airbnb and Vrbo travelers. We have met so many wonderful people through these venues. We've gotten fantastic reviews. Our visitors have fallen in love with the property, just as I did so many years ago.

As we prepare to re-open La Casa de Vida Natural as a destination holistic center, it seems useful to think about why we should continue to support the efforts of so many who are endeavoring to rebuild the island to its former glory. These facts may surprise you.

UNIQUE NATURAL RESOURCES

  • The importance of Isla de Mona

Besides the more well-known islands that are part of Puerto Rico — Viequez and Culebra — the island of Mona lies 41 miles west of the main island, and connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Caribbean Sea. It is a protected nature preserve, and is a key shipping route from the Atlantic to the Panama Canal.

  • The importance of Rio Camuy:

Río Camuy is part of the third largest subterranean river and cave system in the world. It is home to more than 13 species of bats, and hundreds of other insect, arachnid and frog species.

  • The importance of El Yunque (the rain forest):

La Casa is situated at the edge of the El Yunque rainforest-- the only rainforest that is protected in the U.S. The rainforest is one of the most diverse areas within the U.S. Weather conditions in El Yunque are perfect for many types of plants and trees to thrive. There are thousands of native plants and trees, including at least 240 species of trees (with 23 known to exist only in this forest), 150 species of fern, 50 species of orchids and many species of vines and mosses.

No large animals reside in the rainforest, but countless small animals do. These include 50 species of birds (including the endangered Puerto Rican parrot), 11 species of bats, eight species of lizards and 13 species of the coquí frog, the national mascot. There are also many types of snakes and insects.

  • The importance of the International Biosphere Reserve:

The driest place on the island is a desert-like forest known as Guanica Biosphere Reserve and State Forest, located in the southwest region. The Cordillera Central mountain range blocks most of the rain systems in a phenomenon known as a rain shadow. The nearly 10,000-acre forest has been protected since 1919 and was declared a UNESCO International Biosphere Reserve in 1981.

There are at least 700 species of plants in the Guanica Reserve, including 48 endangered plants and 16 that are endemic to the region, including the gumbo limbo tree and the guayacán tree. The largest variety of birds on the island, at least 185 species, lives in the reserve. That includes most of the 16 species native to Puerto Rico, such as the Puerto Rican woodpecker and the endangered Puerto Rican nightjar. There are also countless reptiles and amphibians within the reserve, including the national coquí frog.

  • The importance of the clay:

Puerto Rico is a now-extinct volcanic island-arc terrain that started to grow approximately 190 million years ago. The red clay on the island is ancient volcanic mud, high in minerals and iron, and is useful in treating a variety of conditions. Pelotherapy, the use of clay for therapeutic benefits, is a popular practice at spas and wellness centers worldwide. Clay has many nutrients and minerals that are helpful in getting rid of toxins, heavy metals, impurities and chemicals from the body. Many animals eat clay to help remove poisons from their systems during illness. The clay’s neutral pH levels as well as its high content of phosphorous and magnesium makes it an ideal and popular anti-aging material. It allows skin to heal, and maintains a fresh, natural glow. Native Americans called clay Ee-Wah-Kee, the mud that heals.

We are fortunate at La Casa to have an abundance of this red clay. We have used it successfully for skin conditions, digestive ailments, inflammation, fever, and immune disorders. We have found it to be a highly effective therapy.

SCIENCE:

  • The importance of the Puerto Rican Trench

Puerto Rico is surrounded by deep waters, including the Puerto Rico Trench — the deepest trench in the Atlantic Ocean. This trench is called the Milwaukee Deep, and its deepest spot is 26,247 feet. For comparison, the average depth of the Atlantic Ocean is 12,881 feet. Ocean trenches are unique habitats, home to a diverse number of species, many of which are new or still unknown to science. Studying the adaptations of deep-sea organisms to their surroundings can give scientists insight and information that may lead to biological and biomedical advances. Researchers have already discovered microbes in deep-sea hydrothermal vents that show promise for new sources of antibiotics as well as anti-cancer drugs.

Although our knowledge about the ocean trenches is limited, because of their depth and remoteness, we do know that they play a significant role in our lives on land. Seafloor earthquakes can come from these trenches, including the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake that caused the devastating tsunami. By studying ocean trenches, scientists can better understand the causes of the natural disasters that originate in the trenches.

Scientists are also finding significant information from the genetics of these deep-ocean-living organisms that will help us to understand the origins of ocean life, and the history of how life spread from the depths of the ocean to the rest of the world’s less deep oceans.

  • The importance of the Arecibo Observatory

Because of the large sinkholes in the karst region of Puerto Rico, Arecibo offered perfect cavities for a very large telescope dish.Until 2016, it was the world's largest single-aperture telescope, and is used in three major areas of research: radio astronomy, atmospheric science, and radar astronomy. The discoveries using the telescope have been numerous, including the awarding of a Nobel Prize in Physics in 1974. Also, in that year, the transmission of the Arecibo Message began, an attempt to communicate with potential extraterrestrial life.

  • The importance of the Puerto Rican monkeys

Cayo Santiago Field Station is a 38-acre tropical island off the coast of Puerto Rico and home to approximately 1,500 rhesus monkeys, earning it the local nickname, Monkey Island.

The Cayo Santiago Field Station is the longest-running primate field site in the world. Since it was founded in 1938, generations of monkeys have lived out their lives there, with humans keeping a watchful eye. Only monkeys live on the island. The staff takes a 15-minute boat trip from Punta Santiago to Monkey Island.

Over the past 80 years, important and diverse research has taken place on Cayo. While some scientists have studied cognition, analyzing how the monkeys think and solve problems, others have studied where the monkeys are looking. Researchers have asked such questions as: can the monkeys reflect on their own knowledge to know when they don't know something — a hallmark of human reasoning? (The answer is surprisingly, yes! Monkeys can think about what they are thinking about.)

Scientists have observed the monkeys' interactions to learn who is friends with whom, who gets into fights, who has suitors for affection. Because of this research, we know everything about their family life.

Yet another research project has been to study how hormone levels affect monkeys’ sexual development. This translates into a lot of time scooping up monkey poop.

Working on Monkey Island is nothing if not humbling. While the monkeys are free to wander all over the island without restriction (after all it is their home), the scientists, on the other hand, eat their lunch in a large metal cage. Researcher Giselle Carabello-Cruz suggests that we think of the island as like a zoo where the monkeys come to see the humans.

Researchers are now at the point where they are asking questions in the fields of biology, anthropology and psychology that can't be answered anywhere else.

After Hurricane Maria struck, scientists in the U.S. attempted to make contact with students and staff in Puerto Rico who had worked at Cayo Santiago Field Station. Photos and videos sent back showed absolute devastation of the island. A photo taken from a helicopter surveying the damage showed a large chalk message: "S.O.S. Necesitamos Agua/Comida" — We need water and food.

Yet, in spite of all: the monkeys were spotted! Defying expectations, many of the Cayo monkeys had survived the storm. Over the next several days, staff traveled to Cayo and started searching for each individual monkey.

Researchers from around the world started organizing relief efforts. The most immediate concern was water: a system of rainwater cisterns had collected fresh water for the monkeys to drink. We have to thank the researchers, and send blessings to the amazing monkeys who have and will continue to teach us so much about our animal ancestry.

BIO AND CULTURAL DIVERSITY:

  • The importance of the diversity of the island:

Puerto Rico is an exceptionally diverse region, with a mountain range, coastal plains, a desert and a rainforest. With more plants, trees and animals, the soils improve and become stronger — less prone to erosion, drought and flooding. Biodiversity is of great importance in order to maintain stable ecosystems.

  • The importance of the Puerto Rican culture

Puerto Rican culture is based on a blend of Taino (Indian), African and Spanish traditions, food, music, art and language. There are also influences introduced by immigrants from China, Italy, France, Germany and Cuba.

Cocina Criolla, the local name for Puerto Rican cuisine, has its roots in Taino, Spanish and African specialties and cooking styles with influences from European and Chinese immigrants. The Taino people lived primarily on tropical fruit, corn, yuca and seafood. The Spanish introduced many types of food, including rice, wheat, olives and olive oil, beef, pork, garlic, sugarcane and coffee. Enslaved Africans brought okra, taro and plantains. Sugarcane was and still is used to distill rum, a favorite drink in Puerto Rico. Today's cuisine, with a liberal use of indigenous ingredients focuses on many of the same ingredients that have been used for centuries.

Several instruments that are traditionally used in Puerto Rican music date back to the Taino people. The guiro is one of the instruments. Several others, including the requinto, bordonua, cuatro, and tiple were adapted from the six-string guitar brought over by early Spanish settlers. Percussion instruments such as panderetasand maracas have been popular. Dances choreographed to match the music include the bomba, plena and variations of the salsa.

Puerto Rican art also shows a blend of the many cultures in the island's melting pot. Taino art included jewelry, pottery and baskets made from gold, shells, wood and stones. The earliest religious carvings were called cemi. These were highly revered small statues that stood within all the villages. Religious figures dated back to the 16th century were known as Santos. Masks also date back to earlier centuries, and are still popular during carnival time.

“I had a brief overnight stay at La Casa en route across the island to see friends, but will definitely be back to stay for a visit in its own right! After hiring a car in Fajardo (I would recommend doing this given the location), I arrived late and at short notice but was given a warm welcome by the family. In the morning, and in the daylight, I could see the incredible, lush, sweeping views over the rainforest. The rooms are set in the family home, which rotates around the very friendly and bubbly 19 month old Sequoia. I felt at home and at ease in the house and found the room to be clean and comfortable. I look forward to coming back and seeing more of the surrounding rainforest soon! Thank you for a great nights sleep!”

                                 -Louise

“A delightful ramshackle cottage perched in the midst of overgrown tropical activity. I stayed here for five days and got a lot of creative work done. It's a pretty basic setup inside, so don't expect to do any major cooking. But great to sit out on the porch and read, with a frog chorus to keep you company at night.”

LIFESTYLE TRUMPS GENES

"Life-style trumps genes" is one of the most important lessons on health that I want to impart. My mother and sister were both dead of cancer long before they reached the age that I am currently (73). Pictures above are of me on my 73nd birthday. I am healthy, have no diseases, live an active lifestyle (swim, run, do yoga), and am a 53-year vegetarian. Yet, according to genetic predictions, I should be dead. Rather than dying, I thrive in my lifestyle, my age, and my infinite curiosity.

CURIOSITY is the CURE. Understanding this concept comes from the etymology of the word. CURE comes from the root word CURA. Its original meaning was care and concern. But it also meant curious. When we bring care and concern, we become CURIOUS. And that leads to CURE. As a very smart man once said:

"I have no special talents. I am only passionateely curious."

(His name was Albert Einstein.)

My mother was my first inspiration/lesson about the reversibility of disease.

I created La Casa Spa & Wellness Centers (Puerto Rico and New York) long before holistic medicine was widely known.

These experiences -- of my mother getting sick, my mother fully reversing terminal cancer, and my mother's cancer coming back after the biggest emotional loss of her life -- inspired me to specialize in my psychoanalytic practice to work with cancer patients, and to fulfill the need for holistic healing centers. La Casa started as a destination holistic center in the rain forest jungle  of Puerto Rico, and then in the urban jungle of NYC. I invite my readers, and all others, to partake of the restorative and profoundly cleansing therapies that have brought both La Casas world-wide recognition.

A personal note: there is not a single therapy offered at both La Casas that I have not incorportated into my own lifestyle.

HYDROGEN WATER

Molecular hydrogen has been shown to have a therapeutic effect in over 150 human diseases.

Hydrogen Water:
• improves mood
• promotes weight loss
• regulates blood sugar levels
• helps cancer prevention by suppressing tumor colony growth
• prevents metabolic syndrome by decreasing levels of glucose, insulin and triglycerides
• promotes eye health
• provides relief from arthritis
• promotes oral health
• protects the skin
• reduces muscle fatigue
• protects the brain
• prolongs lifespan
• promotes pH balance;
• promotes wound healing
• reduces inflammation
• enhances mitochondrial function
• improves bladder dysfunctions
• lowers cholesterol
• protects cardio functioning
• relieves pain
• protects lungs
• promotes gut health

ASEA WATER

ASEA is a mixture of 16 chemically recombined products of salt and water. It consists of trillions of stable, perfectly balanced molecules with completely new chemical properties, and the final product is no longer salt or water. Rather, it is a balanced buffet of redox signaling molecules. Signaling molecules are created within every cell in the body, and redox signaling is a function that is central to all life. As we age, our cells make fewer of these molecules. ASEA is the world’s only source for replenishing them.

ASEA water:
• promotes enhanced immune function
• supports the vital activity of cellular communication
• provides superior “support” to athletes
• boosts efficiency of the body’s own antioxidants by 500%
• protects against free radical damage.
• helps maintain a healthy inflammatory response
• helps maintain cardiovascular health and support arterial elasticity
• improves gut health and digestive enzyme production
• modulates hormone balance to support vitality and wellness

DOUBLE HELX WATER

Double Helix Water is a product developed based on Dr. Shui Yin Lo’s research on stable water clusters. It represents a newly discovered phase of water called Stable Water Clusters. The water has had double-blind studies at major universities, finding that it stimulates the response capabilities of the body’s immune system.

Thermal images taken before and after drinking Double Helix Water.

The picture of the sample slide above was taken with a Scanning Electron Microscope. The large oblong mass in the middle of the slide is the body of the bacteria and the small point-like structures are Stable Water Clusters found in Double Helix Water, sticking to and surrounding the bacterial mass, preventing it from growing any further. The Stable Water Clusters in this slide have actually started to break down the bacteria, rupturing the protein sack surrounding the bacteria and causing the body of bacteria to spill out across the slide—similar to a cracked egg—ultimately killing the bacteria. This water has demonstrated antibacterial action.

APeX WATER

The creation of APeX derives from two paradigm-shifting scientific/medical discoveries: the first comes from the understanding of specific properties of minute particles of silver that make it an ideal delivery system for carrying oxygen to pathogenic cells; the second arises from Otto Warburg’s discovery in the 1930s that cancer cells thrive in oxygen deficient environments. In the 1950s a group of scientists married these two discoveries together, and created a liquid water product that, to this day, is unique and unrivalled in its therapeutic power for reversing many afflictions and illnesses. The scientists encapsulated a smaller than nano-sized silver nucleus within a cluster of oxygen molecules. APeX attaches large numbers of oxygen molecules—clusters—to each silver particle, forming what might be best referred to as a Silver-Oxygen Nano-Cluster. The oxygen molecules are bonded to the silver core, and through the use of the silver nuclei, the oxygen is delivered, past the cell membrane, into the heart of the cell. APeX is a direct cellular infusion oxygen delivery system. It has the ability to specifically rout out pathogenic cells, and then, one-by-one, destroy them, without any toxic residue to healthy cells.

The pictures below illustrate the effect of APeX water on various organs through measurement by the Matrix Decoder program:

QLARIVIA WATER

This award-winning deuterium-depleted water (DDW) water, produced in Romania, is referred to as immaculate water because it is like the water that existed thousands of years ago on Earth. The water produced in the body (referred to as metabolic water) is also deuterium depleted.

Deuterium is one of three hydrogen isotopes. Discoveries in the last fifteen years have been groundbreaking. We now know that even a small reduction in deuterium content in the body can have a significant influence on a number of health parameters. The most effective way of reducing the quantity of deuterium in the body is to directly consume water with a low content of deuterium. Qlarivia has a 6 times smaller concentration of deuterium than is present in naturally occurring water.

Over ten years of research and clinical trials on humans in Hungary by Dr. Gábor Somlyai have identified positive effects of DDW including: reducing errors in DNA transcription, giving anti-aging properties; improving ATP production; transmitting information more efficiently.

Experiments on plants with DDW show a general increase in growth and productivity — up to 200%. Experiments with chickens lead to a 50% decrease in mortality and a near doubling in egg production. Experiments with mice revealed increased life expectancy and an increase in sexual activity.

CRYSTAL ENERGY

Crystal Energy, developed by Patrick Flanagan, consists of silica-based nano-sphere minerals that make water "wetter," thus unlocking the potential of water as a medium for nutrient replenishment and waste removal at the cellular level. One drop of Crystal Energy contains trillions of these particles. When added to one ounce of water, the electric charge density breaks the water clusters into smaller clusters so completely that the water has the same surface tension as boiling water.

The rate of movement of water and nutrients across cell membranes is increased by as much as 2.5 times. At the level of the cell, increasing the flow of water by 2.5 times means that over 100X as many nutrients are brought into the cells, and 100X more toxins can be transported out of the body for elimination.

In addition, the equally charged particles distribute themselves in such a way that they are within 100 nanometers of each other. Water molecules are polar and align themselves with the nano-spheres. This process is called 'epitaxy' where crystals of one material grow on the highly charged substrate of another material, duplicating the substrate structure.

ALKAMIND GREENS AND MINERALS

Tablets or capsules are the least effective way if getting nutrients. It takes 20-30 minutes just to break down the pills, and this is before the body can even start to assimilate them. Once broken down, the body utilizes only 40-53% of the ingredients. The remainder ends up as very expensive urine!

In order for any nutrient to reach the cells of the body, it must first be suspended in a liquid. Dr. Daryl Gioffre has created a superior line of powders, Alkamind Daily Greens and Daily Minerals. His motto, Get Off Your Acid, comes from understanding the vital importance of pH in the body. Staying alkaline assists your body from depleting its own resources in its attempt to neutralize too much damaging acidity.

Alkamind takes only 1-4 minutes to assimilate with a 98% absorption rate.

CANNABINOID WATER

Cannabiplex is most advanced CBD delivery system on the market and boasts the highest concentration of bioavailable cannabinoids, and contains over 75 terpenes including:

PINENE | LIMONENE | HUMULENE | BETA CARYOPHYLLENE

Cannabinoid Water is not your typical water. It utilizes nano-nutrients that come from 100% organic, non-GMO Hemp, offering the health benefits of cannabinoids without the cannabis effects. It reduces the nutrients into tiny particles one millionth of their size and encapsulate them into water clusters. The pH of the water is 7.4.

Several studies have shown CBD provides workout recovery health benefits thanks to its analgesic, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties that include:

• anti-inflammatory
• muscle spasm relief
• protection of the heart, lungs and brain
• reduction of nausea
• increases in appetite
• sleep aide

BLACK HIMILAYAN SALT WATER

Given the history of mankind, and our never-ending love affair with salt, it would seem odd that a substance that has, in ancient times, been as valuable as gold, would be bad for us, as modern medicine suggests. Salt is instrumental in maintaining fluid balance between the internal and external environments of our cells. In contradistinction to the lots-of-salt-is-bad-for-you theory, many studies actually show that eating too little salt can be harmful, including the following disturbances: elevated LDL cholesterol and triglycerides; increased risk of dying from heart disease or heart failure; insulin resistance; type 2 diabetes; adrenal fatigue; electrolyte deficiency; imbalance in the regulatory hormonal system; headaches; fluid retention; and sleep disturbance.

Himalayan Pink Salt and Celtic Salt are usual substitutes for denatured table salt. However both lack an essential mineral: sulfur. Many of us are deficient in sulfur. Increasing levels of toxins in our food, water, and air, combined with lower food quality, have caused depletion of our bodily sulfur reserves. The elderly and vegetarians often suffer the greatest deficiency. Celtic salt has the additional disadvantage of sometimes being harvested from highly polluted seas that have been contaminated by agricultural, industrial and urban runoff.

Black Himalayan salt comes from black rock high in Nepal. It is mined and harvested from pristine layers of earth, 300 million-years old in one of the most unpolluted places on earth. The salt is delivered to a government-approved fair trade facility in Kathmandu that is dedicated solely to the processing of the salt. The factory is owned by a humanitarian network of schools, orphanages, and community centers dedicated to preventing child trafficking as well as providing quality education and strengthening the local communities. Rather than using chemical or mechanical means that could contaminate the resultant salt, the salt crystals are separated from the conjoining rock by hand. (Machines that are coated with lead-laced paint are of particular concern in salt mining procedures.) The salt is then hand-cleaned and crushed. Black Himalayan salt is as pure and raw as it is possible to get. Added to water, it makes a refreshing nutrient as well as natural medicine.

CEM TECH STRUCTURED WATER

Dr. Gerald Pollack has done revolutionary research on structured water. Structured water is the water that is found both in nature and within our own bodies. Structured water molecules held within our cells have a higher level of electrical charge. Structured water stores energy, much like a battery. The aqueous interior of our molecules need to be charged on an ongoing basis, allowing for both optimized cellular and metabolic function as well as greater hydration and detoxification. When our water molecules are optimally charged, our bodies are happy. The healing waters from the Ganges and Lourdes, have been found to have the signature of the structured water found in cells. We use Russian technology, through the Cem Tech, to structure our quadruple filtered water.

When the water we drink is mechanically filtered, treated with chemicals and contaminated with various pollutants or toxins — leading to high tap water toxicity and abnormal estrogen levels — the structure changes and the water loses its healing benefits. If you have pathology of an organ, it's not only the organ that is working improperly, but also the water inside that organ, too.

Structured water benefits:
• enhances energy levels
• improves digestion and regularity
• produces enzymes that help with nutrient absorption
• facilitates concentration
• diminishes muscle contractions
• improves moods
• improves sleep
• regulates blood pressure and cholesterol levels
• improves respiration
• builds endurance
• assists in weight control
• improves kidney and liver health
• improves joint health

Shining A Light On Red Light Therapy

Musings from 20th Street

Shining a Light on Red Light Therapy

At La Casa, we believe in Red Light. We need to think  about light as a neecessary nutrient, like food  and water. La Casa has long used various applications of red light, including our MyLightWave device, and our RejuvaPod.

Our newest addition is the  FireWave. Read what Kris Sweeting, creator of this Far and Near combo InfraRed device, says, and you'll see why we are so excited to include this as part of the La Casa Experience. To benefit, all you have  to do is sit in the reception area. (No charge for sitting, sipping tea in our gorgeous tropical room.) ) Or have a  more intense experience of a Light Bath with this FireWave, as well as our Vitamin D and full spectrum lights.

The most effective wavelengths in the red and near-infrared spectrum are 630 and 670, 760 and 830nm. However 760 has been found to be an "inactive" wavelength

(see graph below).

Skin Rejuvenation

Red and near infrared therapy stimulates metabolic activity in the skin's fibroblasts, increasing collagen production. Here is a picture from another study showing collagen concentrations before and after 12 weeks of red light therapy. It has also shown to decrease gene expression associated with skin aging.

But what wavelengths are best for achieving this? In the medical literature, it showed that combining 630nm with 830nm resulted in the most significant increase in collagen. This is because the action spectra for tissue regeneration consists of more than 1 wavelength of light. Combining wavelengths can result in synergy!

Can light therapy regrow hair? Absolutely, near infrared light, 830nm is the best. Red and near infrared light has also been shown to increase hair growth. It does this through a multitude of mechanisms that result in an environment that allows the hair follicle to thrive.

Actually in the medical literature, increases between 50 and 100% in actual hair count are not uncommon. That's double the amount of hair, not even taking into account increases in hair shaft diameter or tensile strength. Pretty incredible.

Near infrared light therapy has also been shown to increase muscle acquisition by 2x or 50%. In a study performed on two identical twins, one twin used near infrared light therapy directly after working out. The twin who used the light therapy gained 2x the muscle of the other twin. Everything else was the same including diet, workout protocol, environment etc. That's double muscle — 2x the gains in the gym. That's unmatched in the body building arena. The only thing that can come close is anabolic steroids and these drugs can have long term health consequences. On the other hand, red light therapy has almost no documented adverse effects.

WSJ Confirms Jane's Hormesis Theories

A recent article in the Wall Street Journal (click HERE to read in full) questioned the government’s position that all radiation is bad for you (in spite of the fact that all life came from and continues to come from radiation.) The article confirms Jane’s findings on the therapeutic efficacy of low-level radiation, written about in her book, The Hormesis Effect, and seen in her documentary, Because People Are Dying. In her book, and the video, Jane tells the awesome and compelling story of saving her little dog Lilly's life, through the application of PEMF and radioactive stones to make hormesis water.

She also describes the Japanese research on the survivors of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, showing that after the bombs, those who were exposed to no radiation have died sooner than those who were exposed to low-level amounts.

Jane also describes Bernie Cohen’s research, the largest epidemiological study ever conducted in the U.S. Cohen surveyed 90 percent of the counties in the U.S. for cancer rates, and then for radon amounts. He fully expected to see a hi radon/hi cancer correlation. He didn’t. He saw the opposite. Hi radon/low cancer. He didn’t believe the results. So he repeated the whole study 5 years later, slicing up the data in various ways to control for possible confounding influences. Same result. His response this time was to go down into his basement and turn off his radon eliminator. Read in Jane’s book how this multi-million dollar business was created out of pseudo/wrong science.

Hormesis water is easy to make. All you need is a little piece of thorium stone. Email Jane if you are interested (janegoldberg@

janegoldbergphd.com),

and she will give you Faye Gutierrez’s (widow of Jay, who mined the stones before his untimely and unusual death) contact info to order the stones.

A Warning About Bad Avocados

  by Richard Harvey

Over the years, I have either thrown away thousands of dollars of avocados or brought them back to the store. They have always taken them back. It's very important not to eat avocados that are stringy inside, or brown. Brown is mold; fungus.

To test avocados you just flick the stem off. If it's green inside the hole, the avocado is usually okay. If it's brown, it's not. The video HERE is an extreme example, but any brown spots are not good. Furthermore, any brown or grey around the pit means the avocado has been radiated and is harmful and useless nutritionally.

Remember:
Cancer is a fungus.

Anxiety: A Product of Oxidative Stress

12/28/2018

Musings from 20th Street

I was recently given a Vital Reaction Affiliate Spotlight in their August 2018 newsletter. The issue focused on anxiety — the relationship between anxiety and oxidative stress; anxiety and heart disease, and the therapeutic role molecular hydrogen can play in lessening the dangers and severity of this conditions. The full article is below.

Anxiety: A Product of Oxidative Stress

Oxidative stress occurs when the production of free radicals overrides the body's natural antioxidant mitigation. This creates an imbalance in the body and allows oxidative stress to build up, which results in cell damage, inflammation, disease, and death.

Although it's normal to experience the occasional anxieties of life, folks living with an anxiety disorder can experience extreme discomfort at just the thought of the most mundane occurrences. The Anxiety and Depression Association of America describe anxiety as "specific psychiatric disorders that involve extreme fear or worry, and includes generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder and panic attacks, agoraphobia, social anxiety disorder, selective mutism, separation anxiety, and specific phobias." It's estimated that as many as 40 million Americans and 1 in 13 people worldwide suffer from anxiety, and for those sufferers, every day can be a struggle. What's more unfortunate is that Psychology Today estimates that nearly 75% of sufferers never seek treatment.

Studies are supporting a clear connection between anxiety and oxidative stress, including cellular structure damage and altered/damaged proteins, which can lead to a more pronounced level of the disorder. While the physiological cause and effect still need to be determined, these studies are upholding the theory that reduced oxidative stress, via antioxidant use, may greatly relieve the severity of high anxiety symptoms.

Anxiety and Heart Disease

We've heard the stories. Someone thinks he/she is having a heart attack only to find out it's just anxiety or NCCP (non-cardiac chest pain). But, how dangerous is "just" anxiety? Scientists at John Hopkins University are studying the correlation between anxiety and heart disease and feel strongly that there is a connection. Dr. Una McCann, Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine states, "It’s my view and my personal clinical experience that anxiety disorders can play a major role in heart disease,” says Dr. McCann. “I believe that a really careful look at anxiety would reveal the ways it can severely impact heart disease, both as a contributing factor and as an obstacle in recovery."

Similarly, an October 2017 article by Harvard Health Publishing states, "People with anxiety disorders have inappropriate ups and downs that can cause high blood pressure and heart rhythm disturbances. Platelets may become "stickier," making the blood more likely to clot, increasing the odds for a heart attack."

Like anxiety, heart disease has oxidative stress at its root. An Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences study backs up this statement. "Oxidative stress may play a crucial role in cardiac and vascular abnormalities in different types of cardiovascular diseases and that the antioxidant therapy may prove beneficial in combating these problems."

We will touch on heart disease more in-depth in a future edition, however we want to stress the connection between anxiety and this deadly disease. Do you suffer from anxiety? If so, please keep reading.

Molecular Hydrogen: The Therapeutic Warrior

If you're dealing with either anxiety or heart disease, you've probably tried everything, both prescribed and over-the-counter. But, if you haven't tried hydrogen therapy, you could be missing out on some mind-blowing benefits.

Hydrogen is tiny — the smallest element in the universe, to be exact — and it can access the smallest portion of the cell to help mitigate damage caused by oxidative stress. While other antioxidants llike vitamin C and CoQ10 are necessary, only hydrogen can selectively target the two worst free radicals causing the most oxidative stress, the hydroxyl radical and peroxynitrite, helping contribute to homeostasis and overall good health.

Molecular hydrogen has been shown to help to suppress the feelings of anxiety and add a sense of calm and well-being. In a 2017 study by Oita University Faculty of Medicine in Japan, studies "indicate that natural reduced water may decrease anxiety-related behaviors and prevent heightened oxidative stress." Reduced anxiety-related behavior is great news for anxiety suffers, but the prevention of even more oxidative stress is just as important. Thankfully, hydrogen offers both benefits. You can take a look at the complete Anxiety Study, by clicking HERE.

Anxiety & Accelerated Aging

The Free Radical Theory of Aging holds that the damage free radicals do to our cells, particularly the oxidative stress that free radicals cause, is what causes our bodies to age. This damage occurs in many places within the cell: proteins, lipids, DNA, and mostly importantly when considering aging — telomeres. Telomeres work as protective agents to our DNA strands. The longer the telomere strands, the more cells are protected and encouraged to regenerate — the shorter the strands, the lesser the protection and regeneration leading to accelerated aging.

Regarding anxiety, studies are now showing a direct correlation between anxiety and shorter telomeres, or accelerated aging. This means that people suffering with anxiety could be caught in a vicious cycle of oxidative stress, increased anxiety symptoms, and ever-shortening telomeres, which repeats itself again and again causing significant damage and distress. See the study for more info, by clicking HERE.

How do we suggest you manage both oxidative stress and anxiety? Vital Reaction Hydrogen Products. Click HERE to learn more about hydrogen's therapeutic benefits to anxiety patients.

The Telomere Miracle

What if everything you think you know about getting older and staying healthy is wrong?

In The Telomere Miracle, Dr. Ed Park explores the revolutionary idea that disease and aging in humans all arises from one single source: genetic errors caused by shortening of telomeres, or the sequences of DNA at the ends of our chromosomes.

In these pages, Dr. Park shows you how you can intervene in the aging process through practices and techniques that boost the activity of the enzyme telomerase—the body’s internal fountain of youth on a cellular level.

We've been welcoming guests to enjoy the gorgeous scenery, gardens, and spa treatments, for months now, and based on our many online reviews, all have had fantastic times!

“We decided to stay at La Casa's place because of its proximity to the El Yunque rainforest—it's practically part of it! While it turned out we had to drive out and back in order to get to El Yunque proper, it was still an amazing stay in nature. This is not a pristine condo on the ocean, but a tidy and quirky low-tech retreat in the lush forest. No AC, wifi, or other luxuries, but you're enveloped by the sounds and smells of nature. I had the best night's sleep of our entire trip because the Coqui (frogs), insects and occasional rain was hypnotic. If frogs keep you up at night then this may not be the best place. If they don't keep you up then you're not going to believe how many creatures will lull you to sleep. This is a fantastic home to get some respite at while enjoying the beautiful sweeping vistas during the day, and the natural sounds at night. We would absolutely stay here again.”                                        -Christopher

A personal note: there is not a single therapy offered at both La Casas that I have not incorportated into my own lifestyle.

Thanksgiving Recipes

Whether you’re hosting a family dinner, or just taking a dish to a pot luck, Thanksgiving tends to get us all thinking about food, glorious food. If you're wanting to make something great-tasting AND healthy this Thanksgiving, this issue of Musings is just for you. Check out these delectable recipes, and let us know what you're thankful for in 2018! Thanks to Mary Houston for her sharing with us her food tips.

Walnut Zucchini Roll Ups

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups hulled sunflower seeds, soaked 2 hours, sprouted 2 hrs
  • 1 cup lemon juice
  • 2 red capsicum peppers, roughly chopped or chopped red pepper
  • 4 scallions (green onions), roughly chopped
  • 1/2 cup raw tahini
  • Splash of coconut aminos optional, or celtic salt
  • 8tbs. coarsely chopped parsley
  • 2-3 medium cloves garlic,
  • 1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper

Preparation:

1. Rinse sunflower seeds.
2. Put all ingredients in the food processor and process until smooth.
3. Taste, and adjust your seasoning. The garlic flavor will develop over time.
4. Slice zucchini on a mandolin — very thin or use a very sharp knife.
5. Spread a thin layer of pate on the zucchini strips.
6. Place in dehydrator for 2 to 4 hours until zucchini strips are soft.
7. Roll up the zucchini w/pate and hold together with tooth pic if necessary.
8. Now place back in the dehydrator for up to 24 hours. These will keep for some time in the refrigerator.

Simple Herbed Cabbage Rolls (Raw)

Ingredients:

  • 4 - 6 green cabbage whole leaves, lightly brushed with olive oil, lemon juice and salt and left to soften whilst you prepare the filling
  • 2 cups of peeled & grated cucumber
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
  • 1 green onion stalk, chopped
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 1/4 cup lightly packed fresh dill, chopped salt & pepper to taste

This is a very tasty dip that you can use with your dehydrated crackers or raw veggies, i.e. celery, red and green pepper strips, cherry tomatoes, endive, carrots.

Spinach Nut Pie

Ingredients: (Yields 5 cups dip)

  • 8 packed cups spinach
  • 1/2 red onion, diced small 1/2 cup you can always add more
  • Sauce: yields 4 1/2 cups
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup fresh-squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 cups macadamia nuts soaked for 2 + hrs
  • 2 – 4 garlic cloves
  • 1/2 – 1 tsp celtic salt, or pink salt
  • 2-4 tbsp organic, cold-pressed olive oil

Preparation:
1. After soaking the macadamia nuts drain and rinse before adding to the recipe.
2. Chop the spinach and red onion, place in mixing bowl.
3. Place the ingredients in the following order into the blender; water, lemon juice,
macadamia nuts, garlic, and salt. Blend until smooth. Depending on the blender, this can take 1-3 minutes.

4. Once the sauce is smooth, drizzle in the olive oil while the blender is running. Blend just until incorporated.

5. Pour the sauce into the bowl with spinach and onion and mix.
6. Chill for 1-2 hours to increase the dips thickness.
7. Garnish with chopped red bell pepper or more onion for color.

This should keep for 2-3 days in the fridge. I don’t recommend freezing.

Endive with Pine Nut Sauce

1. 1/2 cup pine nuts and 1/2 cup macadamia nuts.

2. Mix in Vita Mix w/ lemon, small garlic clove, and water and salt, to a pourable but creamy consistency.

3. Add more water if necessary.

4. Place on top of endive leaves and sprinkle with paprika.

Raddichio, Endive, Romaine Salad

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup coarse-grain mustard seeds ground in a coffee grinder. Add to dressing for the amount you prefer.
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped shallot
  • 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (from 2 lemons)
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh basil leaves
  • 2 pounds mixed baby romaine, radicchio di Treviso, and Belgian endive (about 5 heads romaine, 3 heads radicchio, and 3 heads endive)
  • 3 ounces Hemp Seeds ground.

Preparation
1. Whisk together mustard, shallot, lemon juice, basil, and ground Hemp seed and remaining 1/2 cup oil. Season with salt and pepper.
2. Trim core ends of salad greens. Cut romaine heads in half lengthwise, and radicchios and endives into quarters lengthwise.

3. Place half the wedges on a platter, and drizzle with
1/4 cup dressing. Top with remaining wedges, and drizzle with another 1/4 cup dressing.

4. Scatter with NUT cheese (optional), and serve remaining dressing on the side.

Lemon Poppy Seed Biscotti

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 CUPS finely ground golden flax seed, finely ground in a coffee grinder or blender
  • 1/2 CUP slivered almonds
  • 10 drops of lemon essential oil or lemon essence
  • 1/2 CUP poppy seeds
  • 3/4 CUPS COCONUT WATER

Preparation
1. In a large bowl, mix all the ingredients until they are firm but not too dry.

2. Shape into an oval approximately 8” by 6” and 1” thick.

3. Place on a dehydrator tray and dehydrate at 145 degrees for 1 hour.

4. Remove from dehydrator and turn the dough over, and cut the oval into smaller pieces, 3/4” thick and separate on the tray.

5. Continue dehydrating for 8 to 10 hours at 115 degrees or until desired moisture obtained.

Variation: Not for people who are trying to heal any condition: Add 3/4 cups apricots blended.

Cranberry Cream (Very delicious and easy!)

Ingredients

  • 3/4 Cup Fresh Organic Cranberries
  • 1/2 Cup pine nuts, unsoaked

1. Process nuts in a food processor until powdery.

2. Add cranberries and water until smooth.

3. Drop in 1 drop of ylang ylang oil.

Raw Lasagna

Serves 9 large portions. Can be made in a lasagne dish, or made as individual portions on the plate.

Nut cheese
• 2 cups macadamias, soaked 4 hours or more
• 1 cup pine nuts
• 2 tablespoons lemon juice
• 1 yellow pepper (optional)
• 2 tablespoons fresh parsley
• 1 tablespoon fresh thyme
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1/2 cup water as needed

Process all ingredients together, adding as little of the water as possible, until a fluffy consistency is achieved.

Walnut meat layer (optional)
• 1/2 cup walnuts, soaked 1 hour or more
• 1 cup sun-dried tomatoes, soaked for 1 hour or more
• 2 teaspoons dried oregano
• 2 teaspoons dried sage
• 1 splash of coconut amino’s (optional)
• 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
• 1 tablespoon olive oil

Grind all ingredients in a food processor, leaving the mixture slightly chunky.

Tomato sauce
• 1 1/2 cups sun-dried tomatoes, soaked 2 hours or more
• 2 soft dates (not if cleansing or disease condtion). If sweetening is needed use a pinch of licorice root powder..
• 2 cloves garlic
• 2 cups tomato, seeded and chopped
• 1 tablespoon dried oregano
• 2 tablespoons olive oil
• 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Process in a food processor until smooth.

Green pesto
• 2 cups tightly packed basil leaves
• 3/4 cup pine nuts or walnuts
• 3 tablespoons olive oil
• 1/2 teaspoon salt

• 1 clove garlic
• 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Process all ingredients, leaving plenty of chunkiness!

Spinach layer
• 6 cups torn spinach
• 5 tablespoons dried oregano
• 1 teaspoon olive oil
• 1/4 teaspoon salt

Place all ingredients in a bowl to marinate and wilt for 1 hour or longer. Putting the covered bowl in a dehydrator will help this process, but it’s not essential.

Assembly
• 5 medium zucchini, cut lengthwise and marinated in 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon olive oil for 10 minutes
• Pinch of black pepper
• Sprigs of basil

1. Line the base of your dish with a layer of the zucchini strips, overlapping them slightly.
2. On top of this, put down a layer of the walnut meat, then the cheese, then tomato sauce and finally the pesto on top.
3. Finish this with another layer of slightly overlapping zucchini strips.
4. Repeat step 2, but before adding the final layer of zucchini, take your wilted spinach and create an additional layer with that.
5. Placing the whole dish in the fridge for several hours will firm it all up slightly, which will make it easier to cut into portions.
6. Garnish individual portions with black pepper and a sprig of basil.

Introducing The XCalibur

 The XCaliber

The XCalibur in La Casa

Our newest, hot off the presses, innovative, amazing healing device – gratis to everyone who comes to La Casa — the XCalibur. All you need to do is BE In our space.

Nikola Tesla once said that the quest of man is to accumulate more energy or power.

La Casa has a new friend. It accumulates energy and power to the benefit of man. It is called the XCalibur. It’s a frequency device that replicates the frequencies found in a specific area of the Hunza Valley. You may recognize the name of the region because it is where goji berries come from. The people living there have been reported to live to over 120 years (some reports say 150), and, even at that age, still function as though they are in the prime of their lives.

In the 1970s, an Italian engineer named Gianni A. Dotto determined that it was the magnetic anomalies found in the area that created the life extension effects. Dotto theorized that the increased magnetic field effect was from the unique geography of a hot valley juxtaposed next to a glacier mountain, and the clash of the hot and cold temperatures. Between these antithetical regions, in the middle, was the high magnetic zone where the people live. Think of it as blasting a high intensity air conditioner out the door on a hot summer’s day. The high magnetism from the area imbued both the food and water, and had profound health enhancements/life-extension effects on the people.

Dotto built a unit that he called the Dotto Ring that generated frequencies similar to the Hunza Valley. He had several units at Sloan-Kettering Hospital in NYC doing a cancer treatment study when the machines were suddenly smashed by representatives from the FDA. Dotto soon fled the country and was never heard from again. We never got the results of the study.

My friend, Kevin Courtois, who I have interviewed previously in my TV show (also called Musings from 20th Street) read an article on the Dotto Ring after 9/11. He decided to attempt to rebuild the machine. It took him six years and three different engineers before he had replicated Dotto’s original machine. Then he started fiddling, and morphed it into the XCalibur, an elegant radio frequency device that is far more flexible and powerful than the Dotto Ring.

Earth Resonance = Schumann Resonance
The Schumann resonance (7.83Hz) is the natural pulsation of the Earth’s magnetic field that connects all living things. This is one of the wave settings found on the XCalibur.

It was Dr. Herbert Konig, Schumann’s successor, who demonstrated a connection between Schumann Resonance and brain rhythms. Konig compared human EEG recordings with natural electromagnetic fields in the environment and found the average frequency by Schumann vibrations coincided with the frequency of alpha rhythms– the brain frequency of the relaxed and creative mind. Moreover, Konig discovered that the dominant brain wave rhythms of all mammals in alpha or resting state is 7.83Hz: Earth Resonance.

The XCalibur also gives a frequency sweep for the electromagnetic waves that exist in the Earth’s ‘electromagnetic’ cavity — the space between the surface of the Earth and the Ionosphere. Like waves on a string, they are not present all the time, but have to be ‘excited’ to be observed. The XCalibur feature, the “Exciter,” represents several frequencies that excite our own tissues, specifically 7.8 (strongest), 14, 20, 26, 33, 39 and 45 (weakest) Hertz.

Many experts believe that the wide spectrum of stronger artificial man-made EMF radiation masks the natural beneficial frequency of the Earth. Electro-pollution causes us to feel more stressed, fatigued and “out of balance.” Laboratory research has shown that exposing living cells to the Schumann Resonance had the effect of protecting them from ambient EMFs, allowing the cells to increase their immune protection, and decrease the absorption of depression inducing chemicals. Some researchers believe that by producing a 7.83 Hz pulse sweep with a field generator, like the XCalibur, we can counter the effects of the irritating man-made fields. By replicating the Earth’s natural rhythm, we provide ourselves with a healthier environment.

Age Reversal
Dotto claimed that his device extends the telomeres, the aging clock of the cells. The human being is a standing wave of energy, a hologram according to quantum physics. The Aura consists of the etheric body — the blueprint for the mental, spiritual and emotional bodies as well as the physical carbon-based body. All the ethereal bodies emanate and interact with the physical body. DNA has both physical and non-physical aspects. The physical body is rooted in time and is subject to the laws of entropy or aging. The etheric body is non-linear and outside of time. Living in time results in the weakening of all the energy bodies.

Traditionally the Chinese believe that when we use up the pre-natal chi (energy) contained within the etheric body, that we age and eventually die. The bio-resonance sweep of the XCalibur is designed to increase the pre-natal chi contained within the subtle bodies. It recharges the etheric battery that was originally charged at the moment of conception. Conception itself is a massive electro-magnetic event similar to a thunder and lightening storm. When chi is strengthened, we begin to see a process equivalent to age regression. Kevin speculates that age reversal on a physical level is a result of a massive energy accumulation within the human aura.

Sound and Music Conversion to Magnetic Wave Form
The Sound conversion component of the XCalibur machine allows for music to be converted into a magnetic waveform. An external stereo audio input jack is built into the unit that can be used for meditation tracks, white noise, nature/whale songs and other specific audio feeds. This capacity of the XCalibur provides a channel of communication that is far more than a headset or TV screen. Kevin considers it to be a direct link to tissues, cells, and molecules of an organism.

Kevin has witnessed benefits of increasing clarity of thought, better brain functioning, enhanced creativity, greater satisfaction in life, and improved athletic performance. He further explains that the effects are cumulative over a period of time.

To enjoy the wealth of benefits of the XCalibur, all you need to do it come to La Casa. Sitting in our reception room, or having a treatment — BEING IN OUR SPACE — is all you need to do for your body to enjoy the XCalibur benefits. If you are interested in purchasing the XCalibur, Kevin is selling them for $15,000. Contact La Casa to get his number.

Thanks, Dr. T!

Back in August, Dr. Adiel Tel-Oren graced La Casa with his presence once more to share a talk titled "UnAmerican Innovations in Cancer Treatment & True Prevention." The talk covered a number of fascinating topics, including: Why are many well-established, successful cancer approaches considered un-American? Why are “cancer success” statistics of alternative (holistic) approaches highly distorted? What is virotherapy and why is it essential? What is Laser Tumor Therapy and what are its strengths and limitations?

If you'd like to find out the answers to those questions, you can watch the talk in full by clicking HERE.

Greetings From Puerto Rico!

I spent September enjoying the blue skies and stunning rainbows above La Casa Puerto Rico. Although the pictures don't align, what was so stunning about this rainbow was that it covered the entire sky. The two pics together show the whole shabang.

That's not to mention the produce — I especially love the perfect onions. I just think they're so beautiful. We had a picnic on the beach with our portble grill. Good food; great ocean sounds; perfect warn, nourishing and detoxifying ocean water. Sheer bliss.

Look for an announcement of our first workshop  at La Casa Puereto Rico. We're hoping it will be in February, nature cooperating. So far, we are waiting for the earth to become dry enough so we can pour comcrete to build our eco-dome-homes.

Pursuing A Path of Purity

PURSUING A PATH OF PURITY

I am not in the habit of promoting products. For many years, the only products that La Casa carried were colon-cleansing herbs. We have been offering colonics, and have performed possibly more colonics than any other facility in the world (for more than 25 years, with two full-time and four part-time colon therapists).

Recently, in my first post-Hurricane Maria visit to La Casa Spa & Wellness Puerto Rico, I found Cannabinoid Water in the local health food store. For many local residents, it was the only source of clean drinking water. I loved the product, and we added it to the shelves of La Casa Spa & Wellness New York.

I am now adding one more of my very selective choices. It is the newest, and as far as I can tell, the best CBD formula on the market. There are so many CBD products these days, it’s hard to know the difference between the good, the bad and the sublime.

Read on to find out why I think Path of Purity (PoP) is special, more powerful, and more effective than all the others.

Lesson 101 On The

Human Endocannabinoid System (ECS):

Since its discovery in the 1980s, the ECS has been the subject of many scientific studies all over the world to evaluate its potential to positively impact a wide range of health conditions as well as their underlying disease causes and risk factors.

The ECS manages and regulates many of our body's natural functions including:

  • Mood
  • Cognition
  • Memory
  • Motor Coordination/Control
  • Appetite
  • Pain Perception
  • Immune response
  • Temperature
  • Reproduction
  • Sleep
  • Bone Development
  • The scope and complexity of these functions makes our ECS a bridge between mind and body, and thereby confers a foundation of emotional well-being and physical performance with health; or conversely, if our ECS is deficient, with decline and illness.

Our ECS is one of our body's most powerful and vital healing and quality-of-life resource. This is because, despite ongoing changes and challenges faced from our external environment, our ECS helps us maintain a stable internal environment. This homeostatic stabilization requires the ECS to manage many complex processes: neuroprotection; stress recovery; immune balance; energy regulation through the activation of our body's most complex signaling and neurotransmitter system, delivering instantaneous cellular communication and feedback.

To effect all this, the ECS is comprised of a network of two specialized types of receptors located throughout the body:

  • CB1 receptors found primarily in the brain, nervous system, connective tissues, gonads, glands, and organs;
  • CB2 receptors found primarily in the immune system, but, as well in the spleen, liver, heart, kidneys, bones, blood vessels, lymph cells, endocrine glands, and reproductive organs.
  • CB1 and CB2 receptors are embedded in cell membranes. Many of our tissues contain both CB1 and CB2 receptors. ECS receptors are the most abundant receptors found in the brain. Collectively, our ECS uses this network of receptors much like a conductor of an orchestra—signaling receptors from our brain, to our organs, to our connective tissues, to our glands, and to our immune cells in order to adjust to even subtle changes in biochemical cues in the fluids surrounding each cell.

Whereas a conductor uses a baton to signal orchestra members to use different instruments and different movements toward the common goal of producing a great, harmonized sound, the ECS uses Endocannabinoids (which it manufactures on demand as needed) to direct different cell types to perform different actions toward the common goal of promoting and regulating homeostasis.

Each Endocannabinoid acts like a key within a lock when it interacts with either a CB1 or CB2 receptor, causing cells to harmonize and collaborate with other cells toward our body's best outcome.

For example, when we are injured, our body's best outcome is to minimize pain and damage caused by the injury while facilitating full recovery as promptly as possible. The ECS contributes to this outcome by releasing Endocannabinoids that signal three different cell types to undertake three different actions:

1. The injured tissue is "told" to reduce the release of activators and sensitizers;

2. Nerve cells are "told' to stabilize to prevent excessive firing;

3. Nearby immune cells are "told" to calm down in order to prevent release of pro-inflammatory substances.

This injury example illustrates the unique capabilities of Endocannabinoids and our ECS:

  • Endocannabinoids communicate with, and simultaneously coordinate, the actions of different cell types—causing them to work collaboratively.
  • Endocannabinoids are the only neurotransmitter able to communicate backwards: neurotransmitters normally flow from presynaptic neurons to post-synaptic neurons. Going in the opposite direction enables Endocannabinoids to deliver feedback to a presynaptic cell. This is fundamental to homeostasis since if a neuron is firing messages too quickly, then endocannabinoids instruct it to slow down by traveling upstream and activating presynaptic CB1 receptors.

Why I Love PoP:

PoP is 100% organic, non-GMO, gluten-free, sugar-free, dairy-free and vegan.

There are two flavors: mildly sweet and not sweet. The mildly sweet one is sweetened with stevia leaves -- not processed stevia. This is highly unsusual.

The stark blue color is NOT food dye. it comes from the mix of ingredients including chlorella.

PoP is a premium Full-Spectrum Phytocannabinoid-rich CBD administered in a measured and metered dose of 50mg PCR-CBD tablet form.

Other health-inducing ingredients include: Omega-3 (Alpha-Linolenic Acid); Omega-6 (Linolenic Acid); Omega-9 (Oleic Acid); All Natural Flavoring; Bioperine (Black Pepper).

Each tablet is scientifically-engineered with a dual-tier release delivery system. This release is matched to the innate capacity of our CB1 and CB2 receptors to utilize CBDs most effectively and ensure optimal bioavailability.

(1) Under the tongue release of the first 25mg in 30 seconds of intake,

(2) Time-release of the remaining 25mg, 3-6 hours later.
PoP is classified as a full spectrum, containing all 110 compounds found in hemp (including CBD, CBDA, CBG, CBN, CBC, THC, terpenes, essential vitamins, minerals, omega fatty acids, flavonoids, chlorophyll, fiber and protein oils). This is vital since research shows CBDs offer the greatest therapeutic contribution when these 110 compounds are combined. These compounds work synergistically to produce an entourage effect in which the therapeutic contribution of the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

PoP has a premium proprietary formulation that exceeds federal regulations for industrial hemp. Unlike other CBD products that have been cross-bred for industrial purposes, or can be synthetic, or are have been found to be high in pesticides and/or heavy metals, PoP’s oil contains only superior, premium strains of PCR-CBD hemp oil.

The chart that follows shows the relationship between PoP’s PCR-CBD and the ECS. Although it may be too small to read the text, just pay attention to too the green dots; they are all the places in your body that have CB1 and CB2 receptors: in short, all over the place, and where it counts the most.

PoP can be purchased from La Casa for $150 a vial.

That price represents ten cents per mg. As well as being a great product, the price is an unparalleled value.

Contact me via email if you would like to have the product.

Thanks to James Comerford for help is preparing this Musings -- he is the one who introduced me to PoP.

Forest Bathing Once Again Scientifically Documented For Health Benefits.

I wrote about the practice of Forest Bathing in a previous Musings. The Japanese call it shinrin-yoku. Recently, scientists analyzed the findings of more than 140 studies involving 300 million people from 20 different countries. They concluded that spending more time outdoors in nature or living near green spaces (including even urban parks) lowers the chance of getting type-2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and early death. Also, there is less cortisol produced, better sleep and stronger feelings of well-being. Breathing in phytoncides, which are organized compounds emitted by trees, stimulate our immune systems and reduce inflammation.

“If you’re interested in getting away from the city and enjoying the natural beauty of PR, this is definitely the place for you. Jyl was very kind and took us on a farm tour where we sampled some delicious fruit. The best part was falling asleep while listening to the soothing noises of El Yunque National Forest nearby. Thanks Jyl!”

“Beautiful place with a great location up in the foothills of the rain forest. The location was perfect with easy access to Rio Grande, El Yunque, Fajardo and San Juan. You are right in the middle of it all. Super friendly hosts and a beautiful place all around, our only gripe was that not having AC in August was no bueno. if they had AC we wold stay here again.”

Thank You, Elite Luxury!

I spent my Labor Day weekend thoroughly enjoying The Elite Luxury event at New Jersey’s Essex County Airport where they had airplanes to sit in (or buy), helicoptor rides, and a few Maseratis. I was there to offer a host of unique wellness therapies, available at La Casa.

One of the clients who used our Matrix Decoder told us after we scanned her that what we described to her about our findings was spectacular, truly comprehensive and astonisgingly accurate. She knew what we said was a description of what was, indeed, "off" with her body. What had previously been a whisper to her about her condition suddenly became a loud scream. The most incredible thing? She told us afterwards she was a medical doctor.

Now that the Matrix Decoder has pinpointed her issues, she knows exactly where to concentrate her attention. Such a pleasure to help others at these types of events!

Catch you at the next one!

"Life-style trumps genes" is one of the most important lessons on health that I want to impart. My mother and sister were both dead of cancer long before they reached the age that I am currently (72). Pictures above are of me on my 72nd birthday, in May. I am healthy, have no diseases, live an active lifestyle (swim, run, do yoga), and am a 50-year vegetarian. Yet, according to genetic predictions, I should probably be dead. Rather than dying, I thrive in my lifestyle, my age, and my infinite curiosity.

I created La Casa Spa & Wellness Center long before holistic medicine was widely known, prompted by my mother's breast and bone cancer. Following sound principles of holistic health, she was able to reverse her condition entirely, moving from her wheelchair to joyfully playing tennis again. After my father died, my mother's cancer came roaring back with a vengeance. I understand the resurgance of my mother's illness to be entirely related to the loss of her one-and-only-beloved.

These experiences inspired me to specialize in my psychoanalytic practice to work with cancer patients, and to fulfill the need for a holistic healing center. La Casa started as a destination holistic center in the rainforest jungle of Puerto Rico, and then in the urban jungle of NYC. I invite my readers, and all others, to partake of the restorative and profoundly cleansing therapies that have brought La Casa world-wide recognition — there is not a single therapy offered at both La Casas that I have not incorportated into my own lifestyle.

Yet One More Update On Almonds...

8/20/2018

Musings from 20th Street

YET ONE MORE UPDATE ON ALMONDS

I love almonds. They are one of my favorite nuts. Here's the good news. A new study looked at sperm quality in almond-eaters (as well as walnuts and hazelnuts). Some men ate nuts; some didn't. The study was with 119 men. After 14 weeks, with only a handful of nuts per day, there was a significant difference: the sperm count was 16 percent higher in the nut-eaters, and the quality, motility, and shape of the sperm was improved.

I want everyone to eat nuts, especially almonds, with all their other health benefits as well as sperm count. (A past Musings outlines the myriad benefits.) But I also want everyone to enjoy healthy almonds. And that has become increasingly difficult. As well as referring to the benefits, I have written about the health concerns regarding almonds (in January 2014 and December 2014, and on a similar note, nut butters last month) first on my Musings, and then on Sayer Ji’s GreenMedInfo blog. Now, there is new bad news, I am sorry to report.

Recently, the U.S 9 th Circuit Court of Appeals ordered the EPA to ban the pesticide Chlorpyrifos. Chlorpyrifos has ben used primarily on almonds and apricots. Chlorpyrifos was one of the creations of Dow Chemical. It was put to market in 1965 as an alternative to the-then controversial pesticide DDT (which was banned several years later). As health concerns about Chlorpyrifos rose, in 2000 the government and the chemical industry negotiated a settlement to eliminate its use in residential settings. But it was still permitted to be used in agriculture.

The recent ruling is particularly interesting as a political hot potato. Attempts have been made since 2007 to ban the chemical from agricultural application. During the Obama administration, the EPA had begun the process of complete banning of the chemical. After Trump became President, EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt announced he was “reversing the previous administration’s steps,” and would allow farmers to continue using Chlorpyrifos. This decision was made despite a 2016 EPA conclusion that the pesticide was harmful to farmworkers and their children— and, as well, could be dangerous to those eating the foods grown with the chemical. The EPA study further cited data from California regulators showing that Chlorpyrifos was affecting air quality in three largely agricultural communities: Salinas, Ripon and Shafter.

Documentation of the danger of the chemical has continued. In 2012, a Columbia University study concluded that pregnant women exposed to Chlorpyrifos can give birth to children with low IQs as well as other problems. In 2017, a report in the Journal of Neurochemistry concluded that exposure to the chemical can lead to “neurological deficits that range from cognitive impairments to tremors in childhood.”

And, now there is yet another problem for almonds. On August 2, the FDA issued a recall for Vanilla Almond Breeze almond milk because cartons were found to contain real milk.

The recall was for 145,254 half-gallon cartons across 28 states. Of course, if a consumer is buying almond milk, there is the reasonable expectation that animal dairy is not one of the ingredients.

I suggested in one of my Musings that a better alternative for insuring that you have healthy almond milk is to make your own. I still stand by that recommendation. And, as well, to further insure that your almonds are truly organic, untreated with pesticides, and raw, it is advisable to order directly from a farmer who has a roadside stand. By law, these are the only US grown almonds that are guaranteed to be truly raw and organic. Through a quirk in the law, although almonds may be labeled raw and organic, they can still be treated with toxic chemicals or pasteurization.

My Brainercize Program Explained!

I recently spoke about a brain-enhancement exercise program that I have been working on for a decade, called Brainercize. The talk took place at a roundtable hosted by my long-time friend and Financial Advisor, Steven Feldstein. Learn about how to keep your brain healthy through play, and what the brain has in common with tofu! (...Also why I hate tofu, but love my brain!)

Our stunning La Casa Spa & Wellness, in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, is finally getting back on its feet again after hurricanes Irma and Maria did terrible damage.

We are planning workshops after the new year. Please watch for announcments later on dates.

In evaluating many state-of-the-art eco-technoligies for building dome homes, we think we have found one that fits our needs most appropriately (ncluding cost). We're really excited about beginning the building, and expanding our residences on the farm.

Until we formally re-open as a holistic center, we are welcoming guests back into the rainforest cottage. Many,  though not all therapies are currently available, including horse-back riding, yoga lessons, Wim Hof breathing lessons, massages, and holistic evaluation of health by a certified healing practitioner. All therapies are on the premises. Vegetarian meals (using some fruits and vegetables grown ON the farm)  are also available upon request at time of booking.

Based on our many online reviews, all recent guests have had fantastic times!

“Such hospitable people! They stayed up late for us to check in and walked us to our little condo on the property. At breakfast they gave us coffee, fresh grown papaya and bananas, as well as coconuts, before we ventured to the rainforest. Lovely people with great views and quiet ambience. Only the frogs and crickets could be heard. Amazing.”
                                                                                -Katrina

“The location is absolutely amazing. You are in the middle of nature even though you are just minutes away from shopping and nightlife. The outdoor shower gives you a million dollar view of the El Yunque forest and the room was clean and spacious. I will absolutely return if I come back to Puerto Rico. Absolutely amazing hosts.”

Dr. T Lecture and Clinic!

This month, Dr. Adiel Tel-Oren is giving a lecture titled 'UnAmerican Innovations in Cancer Treatment & True Prevention.' The New York City talk will cover a number of fascinating topics, including:

  • Why are many well-established, successful cancer approaches considered unAmerican?
  • Why are "cancer success" statistics of alternative (holistic) approaches highly distorted?
  • What is virotherapy and why is it essential?
  • What is Laser Tumor Therapy and what are its strengths and limitations?
  • Promising cancer approaches that surprisingly haven't penetrated American mainstream

The lecture takes place on Tuesday, August 28 at 7:30pm. You can purchase tickets for $10 HERE.

======================

Dr. T is also hosting a skin clinic at Light Touch Laser Laser Spa, on Friday,

August 31, 3-7pm.

All appointments are for brief skin lesion inspection, and immediate removal if indicated.

You can make an appointment using the details found HERE.

In relation to my last Musings on poison ivy, reader

Bob Avery writes:

“Back in my grandmother’s day, people would eat PI to develop an immunization to it.”

My reply:

“Your grandmother’s day is my day too! OMG, am I old enough to be your grandmother?! Anyway, yes, when I was younger, I too heard that. I never tried it however.”

Upcoming NYC Talk About Healing The Holistic Way!

Last Musings, we told you a little about Lubna Khalid — a La Casa client and international empowerment speaker who healed herself naturally of second stage, triple negative breast cancer, in one year's time. Lubna's upcoming talk (at WeWork Penn Station) has been re-scheduled to September 12th.

Entrance is free, but attendees need to register in advance. To add your name to the guest list, just click HERE.

Vibrational Sound Therapy? It's a Didgeridoo!

Last month, La Casa hosted Craig Goldberg doing free demos with his awesome VibroAcoustical PLatform. We were filled to the brim with eager participants.

This past week, didgeridoo musician, Joda Cook, continued my experience with sound healing. You can see the full video of how my session with Joda went, by clicking HERE. Joda will be in NY for a little while longer, and is happy to offer sessions to interested people.

TODAY'S INSPIRATIONAL MESSAGE:

(Watch the attached video of me talking about Brainercize, and about the etymology of the word cure ("cura") -- from which we get the word curiosity.
